> CORVALLIS AND VICINITY If you’re looking for a place to get away from it, then check out a favorite haunt for Corvallis residents — Bald Hill. Tucked between Corvallis and the small town of Philomath, the hill offers great views of the western side of the Willamette Valley without being an overly-strenuous climb. Bald Hill and the surrounding area also provides easy access to a variety of ecosystems as paths cross through woodlands, riparian areas, meadows and forests. Native animals, including black-tailed deer and Roosevelt elk, are frequently spotted and make great subjects for an aspiring photographer. If plants are more to your liking, you’ll want to visit during the spring and summer, when the area is awash in wildflowers. Bicyclist and equestrians can use the paths during certain times of the year, but they’re open year-round to those on foot. There’s also a nearby off-leash dog park if you want to bring your pooch.
