About the DEEPEND Consortium:
Back to VIRTUAL EXPLORATIONS
The DEEPEND Consortium was formed partly to study the long term effects of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on the deep-sea of the northern Gulf of Mexico. A variety of researchers with different specialties and representing different organizations work together on the DEEPEND project. Much of the team's research is conducted at sea with participants providing timely blogs, videos, photos and more. The first three parts of the DEEPEND project took place from 2015 to 2017.
DEEPEND has been a Featured Explorer with the Oceanscape Network since 2015.
Introduction to DEEPEND
Archived Explorations from DEEPEND:
August 2015 to September 2017: The deep-sea is by far the largest affected habitat from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. Become part of a consortium of deep-sea scientists investigating how this environmental disaster affected the animals in the Gulf of Mexico’s deep-sea ecosystem.
