Tectonic basins
Lakes and Ponds
ECOSYSTEMS > INLAND OREGON  > LAKES AND PONDS

Like caldera lakes, these fresh water basins are created by large-scale geologic events which can include earthquake, uplifting, faulting and depressions in the earth’s crust. When basins form as a result of these tectonic changes, they often fill with water and become lakes.

Lake Abert and Summer Lake, both of which are located in central Oregon, are good examples of tectonic lakes.
