Back to VIRTUAL EXPLORATIONS
Since its launch in 2013, the Oceanscape Network has had the honor to work with so many brilliant men and women. Some are researchers and explorers whose quests take them to the farthest edges of the known world. Others are artists, educators and conservationists who have dedicated their lives to raising awareness and appreciation of our fragile planet. We asked some of them to share their experiences working with Oceanscape and here's what they had to say about our Virtual Explorations Program.

Tammy Frank, Ph.D.,
Professor, Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography, Nova Southeastern University Our experiences with the Oceanscape Network have been terrific from the start, and may have spoiled us for collaborations with other organizations. Andrea Marshall, Ph.D.
Co-Founder, Marine Megafauna Foundation Education and outreach is such an important part of conservation. Knowledge is power and the public's understanding and engagement in critical environmental issues makes a genuine difference in our fight to protect the planet. Having open sourced platforms that allow citizens to connect with leaders in the field is an important part of this process. I know I am always willing to take the time to educate those that seek to be educated and helping me find that audience is so important when I am based full-time in the field. Tracey Sutton, Ph.D.
Director and PI, Deep Pelagic Nekton Dynamics Consortium (DEEPEND) The Oregon Coast Aquarium’s Oceanscape Network has been one of the central and most important components of the DEEPEND research consortium’s effort to increase awareness and appreciation of the deep sea. Apart from being a joy to work with, Marsh and his team have produced outreach products that entirely qualify as art. We count ourselves lucky and we look forward to working together in the future! |
Richard Gillespie, Executive Director
The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) I always look forward to working with Oceanscape Network because I know TIGHAR’s work will be presented accurately and fairly in a well-produced, entertaining, and educational report. At a time when journalistic mediocrity is commonplace, Oceanscape Network’s high standards and consistently excellent performance are greatly appreciated. Ruth A. Musgrave, Director
WhaleTimes, Inc. Oregon Coast Aquarium's Oceanscape Network connects teens to animals, the environment, and scientific research. Oceanscape encourages students to explore the Pacific Northwest and become citizen scientists to protect it. Michelle Heupel, Ph.D.
Principal Research Scientist, Australian Institute of Marine Science It was a real pleasure working with the Oregon Coast Aquarium on the Oceanscape Network to promote science and education about sharks of the Great Barrier Reef. Communicating with students and the public is such an important part of science and this was a great platform to do that and reach a broad audience. The team was great to work with and they strived to make sure all the information presented was clear and accurate, which is so critical when talking about sharks. It was an all-around great experience. |
Carlie S. Wiener, Ph.D.
Senior Communications Manager, Schmidt Ocean Institute The Oceanscape Network has been a great collaborator in Schmidt Ocean Institute’s ship to shore and outreach programs, bringing cutting-edge science at sea to classrooms and the public in Oregon. Lisa Romano
Public Affairs Staff Officer, US Forest Service We’ve really enjoyed partnering with the Oceanscape Network and appreciate their commitment to engaging kids in ways that are thoughtful, fun, and relevant. This partnership has greatly expanded our capacity to provide educational opportunities and develop educational materials around some of our priority work, while also reaching new audiences. It’s been a great experience and we look forward to more in the future. Heather Bracken Grissom, Ph.D.
Marine Biologist and Researcher, Florida International University-Biscayne Bay Campus It has been fantastic working with Oceanscape Network over the past few years! The professionalism of the material they develop is impressive and they continue to find ways to make the outreach and events fun and exciting. I am always happy to get an email from Marsh asking if I want to participate in the "next big thing." I know it will be a blast for both me and the public it reaches! |
