This widespread woodland habitat is characterized by a mixture of big leaf maple, red alder and various conifers including the Douglas-fir and western hemlock. These woodlands be found throughout the western half of Oregon, particularly in the lower elevations of the Coast Range Mountains and the Cascade Mountain Range and on the periphery of valleys. Such woodlands can be found from British Columbia to northern California. A diverse understory can include vine maple and salal and provides habitat for a variety of animals.
