Back to VIRTUAL EXPLORATIONS

It’s hard to believe that anyone can disappear without a trace, but in July 1937 that’s exactly what happened to arguably the most famous woman in the world. Her name was Amelia Earhart and her mysterious disappearance somewhere over the South Pacific became an international sensation that launched the largest naval search and rescue operation in history.

This virtual exploration will allow you to join the search for Amelia Earhart being spearheaded by The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR), a non-profit archaeological organization which has been researching this Pacific mystery for nearly three decades. Materials about this investigation are listed below by date. We look forward to sharing updates from TIGHAR as they become available.
